I have read this series from book one and have another one on order that is supposed to come out next month. I love it. It's funny and you never know what to expect. The main character is a hoot and sometimes she's not even trying to be funny but comes off that way anyway. She can never remember someone's name and always gives them nicknames which is usually hilarious in it's own right. Everything moves really fast and you have to keep up and pay attention or you will miss something. I'm learning a lot about gambling although not all the scenes take place in casinos. I never knew so much did take place though until this series and I never realized quite how big a money maker they actually were. I'm not a gambler which is good or reading these would have me rushing off to a casino immediately. Once I start one of these books, I read it straight through the night because it's too interesting to put down. I read one twice and probably will the others. My husband usually won't read books like this...too much for females but when he heard me laughing so much, he got curious enough to try one and didn't even object when I ordered the whole series on kindle (because he's planning on reading them too obviously).Product details

Like all the books in this series I loved it. Even though I messed up and read out of order (after Double Up) but that didn't matter it held my attention the whole time even though it was a short story, which is hard to do. I usually don't like short stories. I may have to read them all again since I don't know when the next one is coming out and these were so good I couldn't put them down until I read the whole series.
Guess its partly my fault for not reading he description, but imagine my surprise when I discovered Davis was somehow not in this story at all? Very odd and unexpected. It was an ok little(very little!) story, and I'm guessing an intro to the next full length book, which I am looking forward to as always.
I love how these short stories showcase the other characters in the Davis Way series. The stakes were high for July when a guest died and another passed out on Halloween at her holiday event. But the real mystery was only beginning. Enter Just Baylor to clean up the situation. Love the chemistry between Baylor and July. This was a fast fun read and a delightful addition to this terrific series!
From the first sentence, i realized something was different. This didn't sound like Davis Way's voice. *Guess who didn't read the blurb, just saw there was a new story out and hit "buy" quicker than a Double Whammy machine can suck up a twenty. So, a new character, July, enters and boy howdy does it get fun fast. A great read. This proves what a terrific author Gretchen Archer is...July sounds nothing like Davis (i hate it when everyone sounds/speaks the same). How about a nice thanksgiving short?
Another delightful adventure at the wonderful Bellissimo Casino & Resort in Biloxi, MS! This time the adventure is all about beloved Baylor & newcomer Event Planner July (pronounced "Julie") Jackson. During the Halloween Party, July is summoned by Esmeralda the Witch and told that the Zombie was dead! During the scramble to get the Zombie out with as little fanfare as possible, the $3,000,000 that was supposed to be being transferred to the safe was inadvertently put into the hands of some criminal types! What a mess! An entertaining mess but a mess! Archer never disappoints as she weaves another great story in Double Jinx!
Fresh characters breathe new life into the beloved Bellissimo in this warm and funny story. I can't count the laugh-out-loud moments woven throughout the catch-your-breath suspense. It's also completely, utterly charming. I'm in love with it. The kind of story you finish then immediately turn back to page one to begin again. Wonderful as a standalone read or as an intro to the equally delightful Davis Way series that begins with Double Whammy.
This was a cute, but very short, short story featuring Baylor from the security department of the Bellissimo Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi and the Events Planner, July Jackson. The Bellissimo has put on a Halloween party to out Halloween any other casino on earth and it's all winding down when July is taken to the dead body of a zombie by Esmeralda the witch. Everything is going haywire and July has never handled anything like this so she can be excused for not exactly going by the book. Handing over three million dollars to someone who is stealing it will make a girl a trifle upset.
This is a prequel for the introduction of July who will be featured in the next Davis Way mystery titled DOUBLE UP. I have read every one of the full length novels and Baylor has always been a favorite character for me. These books are always laugh-out-loud funny but with a good mystery involved in them too.
